Recently, I started using LinkedIn. The reason is that I was advised to prepare for LinkedIn while participating in Select USA Summit, the largest investment event in the United States.

When I actually came to the United States, everyone exchanged paper business cards, but it was formal, and they all exchanged LinkedIn. And all pre-contact and subsequent discussions were also conducted through LinkedIn. In the global business world, LinkedIn was the 'business card' itself.

When you go to a conference, you meet so many people, so it's hard to remember who was who just from paper business cards. But when you look at LinkedIn, you can see their education, career, detailed updates on the company they run, and who they are connected to, making it easy to understand the person quickly.

In my experience, I became friends with someone on LinkedIn, and the more likes and followers their posts had, the more trustworthy they seemed. It was a measure of 'active business activity'.

So I started organizing what I had done on LinkedIn and started to follow quickly. It was late, but I tried hard to make my business card not look embarrassing.

As I learned about the importance of LinkedIn, I thought, "I should have started LinkedIn earlier." In Korea, no one said, "Let's connect on LinkedIn." In the Korean business world, networking was mainly done on Facebook. But in the global business world, it was definitely 'LinkedIn'. I would also like to share some LinkedIn tips. First, use professional and clear images for your profile and background pictures. This is an important factor that influences first impressions.

Second, briefly describe your strengths and achievements in the profile summary section, but include keywords so that you can be easily found in 'search' .

Third, write your work experience not simply by listing job duties, but by focusing on specific achievements and projects.

Fourth, actively expand your network and participate in groups that interest you to be actively involved. Through this, you will be able to connect with more peopleand increase your presence.

One thing to keep in mind is that if your target for networking is 'global' and not Korea, post your content in 'English'. There is a translation feature, but the common language in the global business world is 'English'. Even if you are not good at English, use a 'Google translator' to use English.
